Heart cell research with IMARIS in German TV

German science TV show (“Nano” on 3 SAT) features Dr. Michael Liebling, from the University of California in Santa Barbara and his stunning research about the development of heart cells in zebra fish, using the IMARIS software to 3-dimensionally track cells over time.

Dr. Liebling wants to learn more about the embryonic development of heart cells and uses a zebra fish as a model. Together with fluorescent microscopy and high-speed cameras, he is able to track the development of the heart cells in a zebra fish embryo, 28 hours post impregnation with the IMARIS software in 3 dimensionally over time. The evolving heart is already beating. Dr. Liebling postulates, that understanding the development of a zebra fish heart will lead to new insights in human heart diseases.
