(by invitation only)
Bitplane has gladly accepted Andor's invitation to host this year's AIC meeting at Andor's headquarters in Belfast, Northern Ireland. This location gives all AIC members the opportunity to get to know the people and products of Bitplane's new owner and allows Andor to get a firsthand insight into Bitplane's key innovation meeting.

AICs |
AICs present an update on their research including achievements made with and limitations encountered in Imaris. As part of the presentaiton. In preparation for some of the meeting discussions an opinion in presented on the following questions: Q1: Are you using or planning to use any of the super-resolution techniques (PALM, STORM, STED). If so what is your main interest in the technique? Q2: What is your major limitation with respect to image acquisition? Which software package(s) are you using the most (is your facility using the most)? Q3: Over the last year in your field, what research paper (image processing, methods, biology, etc.), software, or technology have you come across, which you think could have a major impact on the field (and Imaris)? Explain in 1 slide. Q4: For the past decade Imaris has constantly pushed the dimensions (3D, time, tiling). Do you see an advantage in Imaris managing additional measurements (example: decay curves, pH channels at different resolution, etc.)? Q5: How important do you think it is for Imaris to offer better image exchange mechanisms and optimized viewing over limited bandwitdh media? |

This presentation is designed to stimulate thoughts and discussions for the break-out sessions. Using the example of ImarisTime, ImarisXT, and huge image support it provides information about the Bitplane product cycles. |

Break Out Sessions, Workshops |
WS1: Imaris Module for Super Resolution Imaging |
The purpose of this workshop is to brainstorm and prioritize strategies for Bitplane to “participate in the super-resolution trend”. Which additional functions would make Imaris more valuable to researchers in this field? |
WS2: Quantitative biological modeling and Imaris |
Should Imaris provide structures to compare model predictions with the results measured by Imaris (e.g. compare organ morphogenesis simulations with measured data, or simulated distributions of cell size with measured ones? Or support a systems biology modeling languages such as SBML? Discuss this as future path for ImarisCell. |
WS3: Propagation of Uncertainties, Validation |
Today Imaris offers one value for the volume measurement of a surface object and leaves it entirely to the user to assess the errors of the method(s). This workshop discusses what Imaris should offer to help the users avoid measurement mistakes and how much Bitplane should invest in cross-validating its measurements (verification by electron microscopy, comparison to other SW). |
WS4: Intelligent Image Acquisition |
Now that Bitplane is part of the Andor group image acquisition has become a topic of great interest. This WS discusses the opportunities for innovation. Simplify user interaction with software taking more of the decisions? Acquisition on demand (of analysis software)? Acquisition and real-time analysis without image storage? |

TBD |
Discussion on the alignment with large public (and / or open source) imaging initiatives. Euro BioImage, comparable US initiatives? Option to also further discuss our ImageJ strategy as part of the larger picture. |
12.00 AM – 1.00 PM |
Brainstorming Lunch: Instrument Evaluation Methods |
Lose format discussion on how AIC evaluate their 3D instrumentation. Specifically: in which sequence do the factors “application”, “method”, “price”, “brand” come into consideration? |
